“All at once heritage is everywhere, – in the news, in the movies, in the marketplace – in everything from galaxies to genes.” starts David Lowenthal his famous The Heritage Crusade.
On the one hand cultural heritage is the main lure for tourism, on the other hand it is an important vehicle for our cultural identity. For this reason one can barely move without being confronted with heritage products.
Also the professional heritage field expends significantly. In the last decades heritage conservation shifted from the heritage objects and sites themselves, to the contexts in which society embeds them. New policies, ideas, techniques, tools are invented each day. Sometimes it is hard for professionals to keep track of these new shifts in the conservation field. Especially when these inventions happen in other heritage subdomains than one’s own.
Using social media, heritagetalks.org tries to overcome this problem. We try to bring in contact heritage professionals from different fields, encouraging them to write small understandable articles dealing with new shifts in their direct working environment.
Furthermore, heritagetalks.org is founded to operate as a virtual contact zone in which different opinions towards heritage can be discussed. After all interdisciplinary communication is the asset to create sustainable projects. Only by communicating to each other, we can understand the genuine needs for heritage conservation today. Therefore, let’s talk about heritage today, in order that heritage can still talk tomorrow!
